Dominion Through Prayer
God created man to have dominion on earth. To dominate is to take charge of your world or your area of influence. It’s to govern, rule or control by superior authority or power; to exert an overwhelming guiding influence over something or someone. Dominion is one of the greatest responsibilities that God bestowed on man. God created man in His own image and likeness, breathed in him His breath of life and put him in the Garden of Eden. This was the perfect environment from where he could accomplish his divine assignment. The earth and all its creatures were supposed to be under the rulership of man. This doesn’t mean that God gave away the ownership of the earth to man. What He did was to assign the responsibility of governing it to humanity. This means that if earth remained a paradise, it would be because of man and if things ever would go wrong, it would be because of man. Humanity was in charge, and still is supposed to be.
In this article, I will address one of the most important keys for man to be able to dominate his world effectively.
John Wesley said; “It seems with God, man cannot, and without man, God will not.” This means that man can do nothing without God, and God will do nothing on earth without man. There must be a divine partnership between divinity and humanity. Dominion can only be effective if and when man and God are in sync with each other. God is supreme and sovereign, but when it comes to the affairs of the earth, He has limited Himself. Reason? He is a Spirit being. Spirits cannot operate on earth without a dirt body. Man is a spirit being, but he has a dirt body and this alone gives him the legal authority to operate on earth. This means that any spirit without a dirt body is illegal on earth. One of the most powerful weapons you have as a human being is your body. This is why even you, once you lose your body or in other words, die physically, you become illegal on earth and you have to leave. Spirits never die; it’s your body that keeps you legal on earth. Demons try to enter men’s bodies because they want to become legal and do business on earth.
Since God did not include Himself when giving dominion to humans, it means that He made Himself illegal on earth. God does not have a dirt body; He is a spirit and that’s why He needs a man in order for him to interfere and do business on earth. This is how powerful you are. Nothing can happen on earth without the cooperation and permission of a human being, and because you have a body, God needs you to do things on earth. What happens on earth therefore is solely depended on man. This is where prayer comes in because it’s one of the ways we can partner with God. This means that there has to be a partnership between God and man in order for things to happen on earth.
Watchman Nee noted; “Prayer is the most wonderful act in the spiritual realm, as well as a most mysterious affair.” It’s the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God’s infinite grace and power. It is a great and profound mystery. It is an activity that joins the hearts of people on earth with the heart of God in heaven, and it is spiritual.
In the words of Joyce Meyer; “it goes into the unseen realm; it brings things out of that unseen realm into the realm we can see and into the world around us, right where we live. It ushers spiritual blessings into our natural, everyday lives and brings spiritual power to bear on our earthly circumstances. We, human beings, are the only creatures in our known universe who can stand in the natural realm and touch the spiritual realm. When we pray, we connect with that spiritual realm, which is where God is, and which affects our daily lives more than we often realize.”
Prayer is a sacrifice; anyone can preach and teach, but not everyone can pray. Dr. Myles Munroe noted that prayer is the most misunderstood kingdom concept, yet it is the most important kingdom activity on earth. It is a number one ambassador’s responsibility. Prayer, for a believer, is not an option, it’s a necessity. Prayer is not a religious activity, it’s a legal activity. It’s like a license that we give to God to interfere on earth and in our lives.
Consider the case of Prophet Elijah for example. God had an agenda to send rain in Israel after three years of drought and he spoke to Elijah saying;
“Go show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain upon the earth.”
The agenda was with God, yet He needed a man to fulfil it. Elijah obeyed the voice of God and he did several things including repairing the altar, but the most notable one was his earnest prayer. What this means is that for God to effectively use man to do business on earth, man must be willing to obey and submit to Him. God is the Master and the Author of everything. He alone knows the plans and purposes He has for all of us and the whole world. The responsibility of man is to seek to know them and to carry them out as given by God. He has the responsibility of downloading the will of God into his life and whatever situation he may be facing. And how else does he do this if not through prayer? Since man is the representative of God on earth, he must be in constant communication with his Master; their relationship must be right, and they must be in sync. Otherwise there will be a conflict of interest and nothing will work. One of the ways to partner with God and dominate your world therefore is through prayer.
