Self-leadership is having a developed sense of who you are, what you can do, where you are going coupled with the ability to influence your communication, emotions and behavior on the way to getting there (Bryant, Kazan 2012).

As the name suggests, self-leadership is the ability to lead and influence yourself towards achieving your set goals. Self-leaders know what they want to achieve and accomplish in life. They are self-motivated people who take actions towards achieving their goals and they don’t allow anything to deter them from accomplishing them. They act alone, take all the risks alone and make decisions alone. Those close to them may not even be aware of what they are doing. They have the capacity to counsel themselves, motivate and by themselves figure out what to do and how to do it. They manage their affairs and prove to be leaders by leading themselves first.

Most of us fail in life simply because we don’t know what we want or because we don’t have clearly defined goals. There are many who have dreams and know what they want to do, but lack self-motivation to do it. When it comes to their goals, they are their worst enemies; constantly discouraging themselves and busy sabotaging their own destinies. As a result those dreams never become a reality.

Self-leadership is developed, as a matter of fact, it is a discipline. It is also a journey and a process by which you work on yourself constantly. It’s not just essential for your business or career, but also in creating the success you want for yourself and family. You are accountable for your own life and if you don’t make it work yourself, no one will. People who go round and round in circles end up accomplishing nothing.
